Updated Skincare Routine

Recently my skin has been fluctuating as much as the weather (a lot if you’re living anywhere but England, ha!) but I think I might have got into a real routine with looking after my skin during lockdown. We all know that ‘Lockdown Skin’ or ‘Quaratine Skin’ is a thing; just random breakouts whenever they fancy. I’m determined not to give in to those.

The last time I did a ‘Skincare routine‘ blog post was back in 2017, and I will admit I wasn’t that well educated on skincare so please read that with caution haha. Before we start I am going to put it out there and say I am not an expert or have any training in skincare, this is all personal. I thought I’d do an updated version, especially during lockdown where it has become one of my biggest priorities. For AM (Morning) and PM (Evenings) I have similar but different routines, so I will try my best to show the difference.

#AD – This post contains *gifted products and affiliate links- for more information click here. All prices were correct at time of publishing.

TALA – Leaf – £5! I have only recently started using this but am amazed at the magic power it holds. I use this to take off any makeup from the day, just this and water is an absolute miracle.

These three cleansers I interchange between; been a long time fan of Liz Earle’s products but to save my purse I bought the Neutrogena too which is so moisturising. The Australian Bodycare face wash is so refreshing so I tend to only use this on a morning cleanse. ALWAYS DOUBLE CLEANSE IN THE EVENING (especially if I’ve been wearing make-up or SPF).

Liz Earle – Cleanse and Polish £29.50

Neutrogena – Hydro Boost Cleanser (Gelee Milk) UNDER £8!

*Australian Bodycare – Tea Tree Oil Face Wash £11.65

I only tend to use my Toner on a morning, to level out my acid levels on my skin. Again, I interchange between these two as Elemis is my treat (as a student!).

Boots – Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Cleansing and Toning Lotion – £4

Elemis – Balancing Lavender Toner £22.50

Again I only tend to do this stage on a morning and it’s the most refreshing! A few spritz of this and it freshens and wakens me up within seconds.

Mario Badescu – Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater £12.90

Eye Cream

I have only recently started using Eye Creams and that’s because I got sent it so had to try it out and I can’t believe I wasn’t using one before! Bags and dark circles = gone! I don’t however use this every day and night, I try alternate the time of day I put this on as it’s quite a strong %.

*Yeouth – Retinol 2.5% Eye Cream – £24.95

Again, I have only recently started trying serums and oils and I’m sticking to the basics until I know more. Vitamin C I love using and it hugely loves being on my skin. It works wonders with my complexion and clarity. I obviously again do not apply all of these, I interchange between the three.

*Skinkissed – Vitamin C Serum – £24.95

The Ordinary – Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% – £10

*Generation – Vitamin C Serum – £13.95

Neutrogena – Hydro Boost Water Gel – £6

*Yeouth – Day/Night Cream – £22.95

Obviously this is a daily thing, both in the morning and evening. I have used Neutrogena for the past year and have only recently ran out of my 50ml tub I bought in summer last year! It is a long lasting tub which you only need a tiniest pea size amount. After being sent Yeouth’s cream I think I’m set for moisturiser for the next two years the tub is that huge!

Not got one at the moment, which YES I do need one as it is essential (especially when we’re allowed to go out again). Any recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Other Bits and Bobs

These are bits I use (not on a daily) and are my go-to’s if I run into any skincare trouble.

Mario Badescu – Drying Lotion – £21 – A drop of this on an annoying spot at night and wake up and it’s disappeared! Magic!

La Roche-Posey – Effaclar Duo+ – £11.99 – This is the moisturiser I swap into if I’ve had a bad breakout or PMS Skin, it soothes my skin and eliminates my breakouts within a few days.

I do occasionally do some face masks too, especially for self-care (I try to do one a week) and then also use my Jade and Rose Quartz Facial Rollers too, which I am writing another post about the difference in them.

Thank you for reading, if you got this far, haha!

  1. Fab post! I have a pretty similar routine to you. I don’t really own any high end products though – I personally love Superdrugs own brand products! Bonus points because they’re CF and Vegan too 🙂 xxx

    1. Oooooo I shall have to give them a look!

  2. I love reading about people’s routines, perhaps I’m just nosy but I’m always interested to see what products people use. I love using the cleanse and polish too. I like the sound of the drying cream so might have to give that ago.

  3. There’s some great products here, I like the sound of the Neutrogena cleanser, all of my skincare is their brand (I struggle hard with breakouts and I really like their products for my skin type) so I might have to pick that up. I always forget toner but I do miss it in my routine so that might be another one on the ‘to buy’ list for me.

  4. I find it so interesting to read posts like this. It’s great to get hints and tips and ideas of some new products to try. 🙂

  5. Some great products featured in your blog!

  6. I love using the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel moisturiser too! I would really recommend giving the Heliocare 360 SPF a try for your face, as it’s the best one I’ve found!

    1. Ooooo I’ll look into that one! Thank you!

  7. I’m a lover of Liz earle cleanse and polish too but have been looking for a cheaper alternative. I really want to try the Neutrogena cleanser! I’ve also wanted to try serums but don’t know where to start. Which would you recommend out of the three?

    1. Definitely try Neutrogena cleanser! I’ve fallen in love with it (&the price!) and I would recommend all three, but obviously price sensitive I’d go for The Ordinary however I think my actual fave is Skinkissed! So smooth!

  8. Great routine! I absolutely love anything Mario Badescu 🙂

  9. It’s always good to get a skincare routine nailed down. My mum drilled it into me when I turned 21 haha.
I really like Superdrugs own range and the Aldi range have some amazing high end dupes.
