Struggling for Productivity?

It’s become a thing that you are even team #productive or team #whatdayisit? in lockdown. Now, before I start, I am not saying you have to be productive everyday or at all, this period of time is your time, do with it what you like. I’ve found myself either having super productive days or literally doing naff all, so I thought I’d write this in case it helps anyone else in the same position.

If you’ve been stressing out with trying to be productive, give yourself a break and try do some self-care. Here’s a post I wrote about Taking Care in Lockdown.

Write your To-do list for the week on Sunday evening.

This is so you can look forward to the week ahead and have everything in one place that you need to do during it.

Break up that list further into which your going to do on each day.

This will then shorten that list and make it seem more realistic. Here’s a weekly goal planner I have found in which would make setting out all your lists a lot easier.

Block out time per item.

Now you have your daily to-do lists, set a time frame per item on the list and stick to that time-frame like a appointment etc. Make sure you’re also scheduling in time for before an after a task in-case you have to run over.

Wake up and prepare.

Get yourself into the mindset of getting things done, get out of bed, get showered and ready for the day, make your bed, fuel yourself then get going.

Make sure you’re set up.

If your task revolves around sitting at a desk, ensure you have a drink, the cables/chargers you need, pen/paper etc and maybe some snacks. Get comfy and settled before getting on with the task.

Celebrate the little wins.

If you managed to get everything or even just half of the things on your daily list done, be proud! Reward yourself even. You are setting your own goals, make them SMART!

Don’t punish yourself!

If you haven’t had a productive day, or you haven’t got everything done. Never feel down about it or punish yourself, we all have those days. Just accept it and reassign those tasks to another day (ensuring to spread them out).

Don’t put pressure on yourself!

Do not try make up for that past day with the next, as you will be setting yourself up and putting too much pressure on yourself. Meaning more chance of failing.

Go for a walk, take some time away from that task.

If you’re feeling like you aren’t getting anywhere, take a break – go on a walk. Do something short and relaxing to take a breath away from that task.

Give yourself a day off.

If you’ve scheduled in for Mon-Sun 9-5 working tasks etc, stop and rewrite. Even though we have much more time on our hands doesn’t mean we have to use it all with being productive. Give yourself a day/two off or still stick to the working week of Mon-Fri and give yourself a weekend!

These are just some tips that have helped me in ways of being more productive. Take them as you please, some may not work for you but some might. Let me know how you get on and any tips you want to share feel free to leave me a comment.

  1. This is such a useful post! I think it is a great idea to break everything down and work towards smaller goals to achieve the bigger ones. I definitely need to write more to-do lists, purely to get all of it out of my head and onto paper.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Yay! Glad you liked it x

I am seriously struggling to get motivated at the moment. Procrastination is my middle name unless I actually force myself to get organised. You’re right, we shouldn’t punish ourselves as it’s a very strange time at the moment 🙂

    Lots of love, Helen x
