Small Business Shout-Out #6
Sarah is a lovely girl who I attended high school with and is now coming to the end of her degree (as am I) and has set up her own business in the middle of a pandemic and I managed to get a massage from her (for a niggling injury I have) before stricter times came. Please go show her some love!
- Introduce yourself and your business.
Hi there! I’m Sarah and I’m the proud owner of SJH Sports Therapy which I opened the doors to in October 2020. I’ve always wanted my own business but I never thought I’d be in the position at 23 to do it. I opened up SJH Sports Therapy to provide services such as sports massage, rehabilitation programmes, injury prevention, taping for events/everyday, injury assessment and many more things. In my first year I am purely focusing on sports massage, so I can still give enough time to my degree which I will graduate in May this year! I want to help people be the best they can be and with SJH Sports Therapy, I can now do it.
- What do you sell and at what price point?
Currently I am only offering Sports Massage as a service, I have three different appointment times for clients to feel the full benefit.
30 minutes = £17.50
45 minutes = £22.50
60 minutes = £27.50
Myself and the client have a conversation prior, to decide which option would be best for them and run through a full client form to ensure it is safe to carry out the treatment.
- What’s your biggest achievement so far?
I think my biggest achievement so far is taking the leap of faith and opening my business, it’s a scary industry and I always thought I would doubt myself being so young and knowing so many experienced people in the game, but I’ve got the best support system behind me and I haven’t looked back since I opened the doors. The first 2 weeks went by in a flash and was so great people were wanting to come, because that was the other thing I was worried about, what if no-one came?! But, I have some lovely clients who have stuck with me since day dot (and through 2 lockdowns) which just means the absolute world to me, I even have my first receipt framed in my therapy room. Through the pandemic, it has been very hard and in times where I thought it wouldn’t survive, I got through it. I always knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but I’m finding my feet and even in the times we are in now, the future is certainly bright.
- What’s your aim/goal with your business?
My main aim is to make sure people are seeing progression and getting back to things they potentially couldn’t do before they came for treatment. I love hearing from my clients the difference I have made even after 1 appointment. From a business side of things, in the next 5 years I would like to expand to have a premises of my own with a range of facilities that will provide different treatment options so I can offer more to my clients.
