And all these Little Things…

Yes, I do apologise for the One Direction reference in the title, but I couldn’t not…

Recently I saw a friend’s blog post on the small things that make you happy and it got me thinking how grateful I am for those little things that miss out on the amount of appreciation they deserve daily. I’ve listed a few below but there are hundreds of little things that we should be more grateful for that go un-noticed.

Little things we take for granted that make me happy…

  1. Spending time with family and friends.
  2. Being outdoors in nature.
  3. Discovering new things; places, foods, activities etc.
  4. Watching Sunrises/Sunsets.
  5. Seeing my friends and family do well or be happy.
  6. The sound of the birds on an morning/evening.
  7. Walking in the crisp leaves in the autumn.
  8. When my room is tidy, or after having a sort-out.
  9. When I’ve done all my laundry.
  10. Ticking that last thing off my to-do list.
  11. Finishing a book. (link to blog post)
  12. Chocolate (a given?!)
  13. Listening to music, a banging playlist can change the mood so quickly.
  14. Payday. (another given?!)
  15. Having a little sing-song in my room, the car, the shower, anywhere really.
  16. Self-care day/evening. Painted nails, face mask, bath and an early night watching a girly chick flick.

What are some of the things that make you happy that you forget to be thankful for? Leave them in a comment below or just sit and give some thought to them, be grateful for all the little things because if it weren’t for those, there wouldn’t be the big things.

River Ouse, York.

I hope this has got you thinking and potentially swayed you to think a little differently about things in your life. Everyone’s lives are so different and we would all love to be living our dream lives, but just think: what if you’re living someone’s dream life? Be grateful for it!

Thanks for reading,

Han xx

  1. Happiness is more abundantly packed in little things and so we should look for quality over quantity. And yes chocolate is happiness 😍😍

    1. Yes! I fully agree!

  2. Great post! It’s hard to see the little things in life when you too focused on the big picture, but I think this pandemic has everyone taking a step back to appreciate the small details we didn’t pay as much attention to before.

    1. Yes! That’s why I thought now was the time to post this. It’s been sat in my drafts for a long time haha!

  3. Love these little things, especially the sunset, payday and having clean clothes and rooms! 😊

  4. The second I read your title, I knew it was a 1D reference lol. I like how this post makes you really value the small things that happens in your life. Hanging out with friends, eating chocolate, and enjoying a good chick flick is always great! πŸ™‚

  5. We can overlook the One Direction reference…. this time. Don’t let it happen again. πŸ˜‰ I kid. I think we could all benefit from making such lists. I take my puppy for granted sometimes. He can be so naughty and frustrating as try to train him up, but yet…… through my recent depression he has been the reason I have gotten out of bed…. gotten out and exercised… a source of cuddles (when he isn’t jumping on me and nipping at me, haha). I really am glad he is in my life. Thanks for this post. πŸ™‚

  6. I think lockdown has made us appreciate the little things so much. My walks in the country have ignited a passion for nature and photography as well as my blog and Instagram and maybe that would not have happened. I like the idea of you could be living someone’s dream life that’s not something I’ve ever thought of before! X

  7. Thinking about the little things in life is a really good thing for everyone to do (I’m going to do it today) because sometimes we need a reminder of all the things in life that enrich us (sometimes without even being aware of it). Thanks for shraring!

  8. It’s so important to focus on those little things that make us happy. Especially now, this year. Given everything that’s happened and how much has changed! Lovely list of things πŸ™‚ x

  9. I noticed the 1D reference for the title! You’re so right when you say that somebody could be dreaming for the life that you have and that we should be grateful for what we have! x

  10. I love how positive this post is. We all take so many things for granted, especially when we are busy. I love watching sunsets, especially from around the world because they are all so different yet its the same sun.

  11. Love this post! I actually clicked on it just for the One Direction reference. I wasn’t a huge fan of theirs but I was OBSESSED with that song LOL

  12. Such a great idea for a post. I am one for looking at the positives. I try to make sure I take a moment each day to find my happiness and record it.

I honestly believe that lock down has taught me to never take the small things for granted x x

  13. Yes! Love this list! Sunrises/Sunsets are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
