40 Journal Prompts for All Occasions

I haven’t been the most active in posting blog posts recently, but I thought I’d do a post that has been a long time in the pipeline. One thing I have been doing more often in my life is journaling, self-reflection and intention-setting. I’ve journaled for many years now on and off, mainly when someone else has introduced me to it or within a workshop or class I have done, however I started journaling more consistently back at the beginning of Lockdown in March 2020 and it is a habit that I said I’d continue long after the pandemic is over. I personally find it harder to talk and speak out loud about things so my way of getting it ‘off my chest’ or ‘out of my head’ is through writing (if you couldn’t tell!).

So here is 40 Journal Prompts for you to use, whenever, wherever and with whoever. Go get journaling and see what you discover.


  1. Name 3 non-physical things about yourself that you love.
  2. What is one trait you have that you want to be remembered for?
  3. How can you be kinder to yourself today?
  4. What is something that makes you happy?
  5. How are you practicing self-care today?
  6. When was the last time you put yourself first? What did you do?
  7. When do you feel the most happiest?
  8. What is something you can do today to help your future self?
  9. Write 3 affirmations surrounding learning to love yourself.
  10. What is one thing you want to focus on in your self-love journey?

Goal Orientated

  1. What is something I am currently working towards?
  2. How are you measuring your success in your goals?
  3. Are you truly keeping yourself accountable?
  4. How honest with your accountability are you being?
  5. What are the small steps you are taking to reach that goal?
  6. How will you know you’ve reached that goal? Reward yourself?

Check Ins

  1. How am I feeling today?

I hope I’ve given you enough there to get started, I use journaling a lot as a check in with myself, swapping between ‘Self-love’, ‘Reflections’, ‘Goal-Setting’ and ‘Check-ins’ prompts as these are my main focus when it comes to journaling. I feel once I have it written out it becomes real and has more purpose and focus rather than just in my mind. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend. Put on a candle, light relaxing music and make a cosy environment where your mind can run free with thoughts that you can put on paper.
